Each one solves a specific problem with standing water. Together they mean the only routine task left is changing the filter.
High-frequency vibration passes through the water and breaks down the biofilm layer that forms on any wet surface. Because bacteria never get the chance to establish a foothold, manual scrubbing drops to almost nothing — the single biggest maintenance saving on the S20. The cleaning cycle runs on mains power only: in wireless mode the fountain continues to filter, sterilize and circulate, but the ultrasonic module stays off.
Ten media layers are stacked in a single cartridge: PP cotton and bio-cotton for hair and debris, sintered diatomite ceramic (0.3 µm), imported coconut-shell activated carbon for odour and chlorine, silver-ion media for bacterial inhibition, maifan stone, ATS ion-exchange resin, high-density activated carbon, polypropylene felt and a washable ceramic core (0.5 µm). Coarse fibres catch first, carbon adsorbs through the middle, resin binds further down the stack — 0.1 µm of composite precision, with one cartridge rated to treat 1,000 L (264 gal). Replacing it takes about five seconds: press the release, pull the old cartridge out and push the new one in. No tools, no moving the body, no wet hands.
A 275 nm UV-C LED runs on a timed cycle through the water path, damaging the DNA of bacteria, viruses and algae so they cannot reproduce. It covers the gaps between filter changes — the filter removes particles, UV-C handles what a filter cannot trap.
A radar module covers 306° out to 0.8 m and detects movement anywhere from 0.5 m to 1 m away. As soon as your pet comes into range the pump starts a 20-second flow, then returns to standby. Sensing mode works this way all day; intermittent mode instead circulates for 20 seconds every 30 minutes, which suits households where the fountain is shared or rarely watched. Once no movement is detected the unit drops into low-power sleep — silent, and conserving both battery and filter life rather than circulating water nobody is drinking.
Two ways to run the fountain. Plugged in through the 12 V adapter and its 1.5 m braided cord for uninterrupted operation, or free of cables on the built-in 5000 mAh battery for up to thirty days in sensing mode. Freed from power outlets, the S20 can sit wherever your pet already prefers — by a window, in a hallway, or beside their bed. The cord is braided and reinforced specifically because power leads are the first thing many pets chew.
The Tuya Smart app connects over Wi-Fi and reports what each day actually looked like: how many times your pet drank, how long each visit lasted, and whether the tank is holding enough water. It also carries filter reminders, a low-water warning and a power-off notification, so a fountain that has been unplugged does not go unnoticed. Entirely optional — the S20 runs on sensible defaults without it.
The body is divided into two chambers. The left holds filtered water; the right holds water that has been drawn through to the drinking tray. The circuit board, motor and control chips occupy a sealed bay between them, so the water path and the live path never touch a common surface. Instead of relying on insulation and seam quality, the separation is physical — which is what matters most in an appliance that holds 3.25 L of water, sits on the floor, and runs continuously.
Two pumps move the water instead of one running flat out. The flow stays steady at low pressure, so the surface reads as a moving stream rather than a jet — which is what draws cats to drink in the first place. Because the same water is circulated rather than replaced, and because the pump sleeps whenever nobody is nearby, daily water use falls by as much as 30% compared with leaving a fountain running continuously.

The drinking surface is machined from 304 stainless steel — corrosion-resistant, easy to sanitise and naturally inhospitable to bacteria. Unlike plastic bowls that scratch over time and shelter bacteria inside those scratches, the steel surface stays hygienic through years of daily use.
All plastic housings use BPA-free, food-grade ABS resin with a matte finish, and the seals, footing and tray grip are moulded from food-grade silicone. The design minimises gaps and seams, which is where dirt and biofilm normally accumulate and where cleaning becomes difficult.
Two filter cartridges are included, which covers roughly the first one to two months of normal use.
