A single cartridge stacks ten media layers — PP cotton, bio-cotton, diatomite ceramic, coconut-shell carbon, silver-ion media, maifan stone, ion-exchange resin, high-density carbon, polypropylene felt and a washable ceramic core — reaching 0.1-micron precision. Each one is rated to treat 1,000 L (264 gal) before it is replaced.

Each subsystem in the S20 exists to solve a specific problem with standing water. Here is what each one actually does.
High-frequency vibration breaks down the biofilm layer that forms on any wet surface, so bacteria never get a chance to establish. Manual scrubbing drops to almost nothing. The cycle runs on mains power only and is not active in battery mode.
PP cotton, bio-cotton, coconut-shell carbon, silver-ion media and ion-exchange resin are among the ten layers stacked in a single cartridge. Hair and debris are caught early; odour and heavy metals are adsorbed further down the stack — 1,000 L (264 gal) of water per cartridge.
A 275 nm UV-C LED runs on a timer through the water path, deactivating bacteria, viruses and algae. It covers the gaps between filter changes, when water quality normally slips.
The pump idles until your pet is within 0.8 m, then starts a 20-second flow. Sensing mode runs entirely on demand; intermittent mode circulates for 20 seconds every 30 minutes. Between visits the fountain drops into low-power sleep and the battery stays charged.
The S20 splits into two chambers. The left holds filtered water; the right holds water drawn from it. Every circuit, motor and control chip sits in a sealed bay between them, so the water path and the live path never share a surface. That is a physical separation rather than a promise about insulation.
Two pumps are what keep the stream steady at low pressure, circulating water the way a stream moves instead of blasting it through one impeller. The result is a calmer surface that pets approach more readily, and up to 30% less water used each day.

Add water up to the marked line, then seat the stainless steel top cover until it sits flush.
